Spike Jonze's long-awaited movie adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's book, Where The Wild Things Are, features an eagerly anticipated soundtrack as well. The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs' Karen O Provides the Music for the Where The Wild Things Are Soundtrack

Spike Jonze tapped indie darling Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs front-woman Karen O to provide the music for the enthusiastically awaited film, which was 6 years in the making. Karen O, in turn, assembled a Wild Things band which included her fellow Yeah Yeah Yeahs bandmates amongst others as well as an untrained children's choir.

According to record label Interscope Karen O "enlisted friends and fellow musicians she believed had a musical intuition that would bolster her intent to marry sound to vision". The members of the Wild Things band are Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age, The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs), Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Bradford Cox (Deerhunter), Imaad Wasif (New Folk Implosion, Alaska), Tom Biller (co-producer with Karen O and member of Afternoons), Jack Lawrence (The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs, The Greenhornes), Brian Chase (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Greg Kurstin (The Bird and the Bee).

Carter Burwell, who has worked with Jonze on previous films, also contributed to the movie's music.

Where The Wild Things Are movie soundtrack appeals to Hip Parents and Children

The first single from the soundtrack, "All is Love" features a chorus of kids' voices shouting and singing along with the at times breathy, at times wailing, slightly quavery soprano of Karen O. Catchy hooks and shout outs make it fun for kids.

In an interview with Nisha Gopalan in the June/July issue of Nylon magazine Karen O explained,“We wrote music that would be easy for kids to sing along with. The songs have that innocence and spirit with poppy hooks here and there. Simple, emotional, sweet stuff.”

Fans of the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs might note that the appeal to the kids doesn't detract from the music, as Karen O still makes her mark stylistically.
